Green concepts have come to dominate recent auto shows. Now, eco-friendly design is taking hold in the yacht world. At the forefront of the trend is Sabdes, an Australian yacht design firm that has unleashed plans for a diesel-electric hybrid superyacht, unoriginally coined the Sabdes 50.

Bucking the bigger-is-better stigma, the Sabdes 50 comes in at just 164 feet, about a third of the size of some of the bigger personal yachts that have hit the seas in recent years. To minimize energy consumption and its impact on its surroundings, the yacht features a slender hull form with a reverse bow that reduces wave slamming and allows the boat to travel long distances at an economical speed of 25 knots.

Two years after its launch, the world’s largest privately owned sailing yacht is on the market. Commissioned by venture capitalist Tom Perkins, the 289-foot Maltese Falcon has won a number of high-profile awards for its innovative sail design, which allows the masts to rotate depending on wind direction. Inside the boat, a three-story atrium with a spiral staircase sets the stage for the boat’s grand scale. Six guest cabins and eight crew cabins ensure a luxurious experience for up to 12 guests. A unique deep flight submarine, which is currently being manufactured, will give guests a one-of-a-kind way to explore the seas.

Both the interior and exterior of Maltese Falcon were designed by Ken Freivokh with naval architecture by Gerard Dijkstra & Partners, in cooperation with Perini Navi.

The boat is currently sailing the Pacific and is listed at 115 million euros ($180.4 million).

Big-name boat builder Hatteras has introduced a new 56-foot Motor Yacht to its fleet, making the new boat the smallest in the company’s motor yacht lineup. Priced at under $2 million, the new Hatteras is the perfect entry-level boat for an owner-operator looking to test the waters as captain.

The Hatteras 56 features clean exterior lines, a surprisingly large interior, and a pair of pair of powerful 705-hp Cummins QSM11 engines positioned in a space-saving V-drive configuration.

A large flybridge and aft (back) deck provide substantial entertaining space, as does the boat’s open upper deck interior configuration. The lower interior deck comes with three staterooms, two heads, and an option to convert one of the staterooms to private crew quarters.

The motor yacht’s maneuverable size means you shouldn’t encounter many problems entering remote bays or finding a slip at night. (Manufacturer link and interior layout pic and  after the jump).

Conceived as a floating personal island, the barge-looking boat features a 10,760-foot main deck designed to hold a large, deep swimming pool, garden spaces, a tennis court, or mini soccer grounds, as well as multiple helipads.

While living quarters are confined to three upper-level decks, WallyIsland can accommodate 40 crew and 24 guests, in addition to those who will be occupying the lavish owners’ quarters.
