Ride Like a Prince in this One of a Kind 1933 Rolls-Royce Phantom II
April 21st, 2008 by BallerRide
This 1933 Rolls-Royce Phantom II Droptop is a true one of a kind. This history-filled ride is one of two ever built and the only one known to exist today. The Rolls was commissioned in 1933 by Barbara “The Million Dollar Baby” Hutton at a cost of $20,000 for Prince Mdivani of Russia who was her current husband; she had 7 in her lifetime.
Barbara Hutton was the granddaughter of F.W. Woolworth, the founder of Woolworth’s, and the daughter of Franklin Hutton, the Co-Founder of E.F. Hutton & Co, the second biggest stock brokerage firm in the United States. She came into her $50 Million inheritance in 1933 at the age of 21. Today that fortune would equate to nearly $10,000,000,000.
Barbara Hutton and Prince Mdivani were only married for one year. Shortly after their divorce, the Prince was killed after rolling the Rolls-Royce Phantom II several times at over 80 mph while taking a friend to the train in Spain. The car was sent for complete restoration to Thrupp and Maberly, one of the top custom car builders of the time specializing in Rolls-Royce, Daimler, and Bentley. The current owner has held the car for over 30 years and has extensive documentation.
The Prince Mdivani Rolls Royce Phantom II is currently available on eBay at the price of $1,100,000; the reserve has not yet been met and we’re not the least bit surprised. Besides having one of the coolest histories of any vehicle we’ve come by, the Phantom II is as 1930’s gangster as they come. The lines on this Rolls are as baller as the new Phantom and as striking as EDAG’s Custom Phantom, but with a touch of royalty and old school class. If you’re in the market for an old school gangster vehicle but don’t have the cash to drop on this droptop, check out the 1942 Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser Convertible.
