Fisker Karma Makes Perfect Drive-by Vehicle

Fisker has announced that its new Karma four-seat plug-in hybrid sports car will come equipped with external speakers, a safety feature to warn pedestrians, since the car is virtually silent in electric mode. The speakers are capable of playing any sound the owner chooses.

To borrow an idea from the show Weeds, we think the Karma would make the perfect drive-by car. Not to advocate drive-bys, but you could use the Fisker to creep up silently on your enemies or use the speakers to let the hood know you’re coming. Then you could speed away before anyone figures out what happened. However, unless you’ve got more than one Fisker in your area, the car could be a dead giveaway if you’re spotted.

The Fisker Karma will be available in 2009 and is capable of travelling for up to 50 miles in electric-mode before the gasoline engine kicks in.

Italian design house Giugiaro has just released quality images of its new concept car, the Quaranta, which is scheduled to debut in Geneva next week. Looking like a cross between a Lamborghini Gallardo and a Toyota Prius, the Quaranta is an “extreme, ecological, 4WD super-sportscar, the first hybrid car with mid-engine and driving position and a roomy cabin able to accommodate three adults plus a baby in complete comfort,” according to the company. The Quaranta is powered by Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive system and uses state-of-the-art F1 technology.

Although the design isn’t perfect, it’s a step in the right direction for hybrids.
