Geely: a Chinese Car You Might Actually Want to Drive
April 11th, 2008 by BallerRideChinese automakers are notorious for “borrowing” their designs from popular foreign car companies. On my last trip to Beijing, I saw a dead ringer for a BMW X5. The only differences, as far as I could tell, could be seen in the logos. Fortunately, one Chinese car maker, Geely, has decided to go out on a limb an introduce a whole slough of new original designs. Of the 23 concepts that Geely will be previewing at the upcoming Beijing Motor Show (running April 20-28), some of them actually look halfway decent, like the NL SUV pictured above and the Geely GT pictured in the thumbs below.
In its preview lineup at the Beijing show, Geely is expected to unveil the King Kong hatchback, the HE minivan, the GE SUV and the FC-1, FC-2 and FC-3 sedan lineup. Geely is also expected to unveil a number of new advanced powertrain technologies, including hybrid and fuel-cell models.
If you can get over the phonetic resemblance to the failed JLo/Ben Affleck flick, a Geely might make a decent addition to your garage once they hit the States.
