We get a kick out of covering new and interesting concept vehicles, and Istanbul designer Özkan Koral’s hydrogen-powered Ozone car is so far the most wild concept we’ve come across. Entered in a Peugot design contest, the cylindrical car sits on two enormous wheels, each controlled by their own electric motors. A joystick gives the driver control, and a large door on the car’s body slides under the vehicle to enable easy access in and out. The design is clean, with the matte black finish on the cover provides a nice touch. Follow the jump for two more images.

Chinese automakers are notorious for “borrowing” their designs from popular foreign car companies. On my last trip to Beijing, I saw a dead ringer for a BMW X5. The only differences, as far as I could tell, could be seen in the logos. Fortunately, one Chinese car maker, Geely, has decided to go out on a limb an introduce a whole slough of new original designs. Of the 23 concepts that Geely will be previewing at the upcoming Beijing Motor Show (running April 20-28), some of them actually look halfway decent, like the NL SUV pictured above and the Geely GT pictured in the thumbs below.
In its preview lineup at the Beijing show, Geely is expected to unveil the King Kong hatchback, the HE minivan, the GE SUV and the FC-1, FC-2 and FC-3 sedan lineup. Geely is also expected to unveil a number of new advanced powertrain technologies, including hybrid and fuel-cell models.
If you can get over the phonetic resemblance to the failed JLo/Ben Affleck flick, a Geely might make a decent addition to your garage once they hit the States.

Ferrari’s new entry-level concept, temporarily dubbed Dino, is already slated to be the main attraction at the Paris Motor Show this October. While details on the car are still up in the air, speculation indicates that the car will either sport a 400-hp V8 or a 2.5-liter V6 that also runs on ethanol. A designer from New Zealand, Idries Noah, has drafted some preliminary sketches revealing what the new Ferrari could look like with the latter of the two engines. Noah’s concept, named F250, draws its name from Ferrari’s 1960’s model 250 GTO. The real design will likely differ, but we wouldn’t mind if it looked like Noah’s. As we learn more details closer to the show, we’ll keep you posted. The Paris Motor Show (Mondial de l’Automobile) will run from October 4-19, so you’ve got some time to book your flight if you want to see Ferrari’s Dino up close and personal when it hits the stage. Two more images after the jump.

Boutique Italian car-builder SpadaVettureSport announced that they will actually build their Batmobile-looking Codatronca sports car and will unveil the car at the upcoming Top Marques show in Monaco on April 24. The Codatronca on display will be the company’s base 600-hp TS model, which does 0-60 mph in 3.2 seconds. Spada also has a 700-hp TSV model in the works that is supposed to sprint to 60 in 2.7 seconds. No price has been released, but we know the Cadotronca will be produced in an extremely limited release and targeted to affluent customers. Whether intended or not, the Spada Codatronca will be the closest thing to a production Batmobile available.

After drawing widespread attention for his Ferrari-inspired design for a two-seater fastback coupe, IED Transportation Design student Emre Husmen received an unusual request from an unnamed Italian car company; they wanted to make Husmen’s car. Whether or not the car will actually be produced depends upon the public’s reaction to the design. So, if you like the design and want to see the car produced, make it known by leaving a comment.
According to Husmen, technical specifications on his 699 GTO “are pretty much defined. Platform and dimensions are similar to (Ferrari’s) 599’s, but the car will be at least 200 kg lighter thanks to its 2-seater carbon fiber monocoque body and the twin-supercharged V8 engine that runs on biofuel. It will also have hydraulic lifting system and a rear view camera (behind the antenna).”
The name, however, will likely change, as will any design aspects that closely resemble Ferrari’s. We wish this guy the best of luck. One more image after the jump: Read the rest of this entry »
