January 25th, 2012 by Purnima View CommentsCombine the qualities of exclusivity and futuristic appeal; add electricity and sportiness to the mix and you get the Elektrus – the latest addition to German auto outfit PG’s product portfolio. If you are seeking superb driving performance from an electric vehicle (especially when you compare the performance with electric vehicles that are currently on the market), this Lotus Elise- based vehicle has got it. Although, the vehicle shares only six percent of its body parts with the Lotus, it offers a whole lot more from a stylistic perspective. The car owes its uber cool design and styling to Michael Frohlich – the lead automotive designer behind PG .
Drill down to the specifics and you begin to appreciate the statistics. The Elektrus allows a range of 215 miles with a maximum attainable speed of 155 mph. And don’t underestimate the power of this rather lightweight mean machine weighing in at less than 2,000 lbs (courtesy its carbon fiber exterior and parts)! Did you know that it can reach 62 mph in just under three seconds? Sounds too good to be true, doesn’t it? Wait, there’s more! Reports suggest that the Elektrus will have 270-hp and 258 lb- ft of torque.
The urbane roadster is powered by an electric motor and a Lithium –ion battery pack. Unlike its hybrid counterparts and to PGs credit, the Elektrus’ USP lies in its unique solar panel that sits on the rear deck. The panel supplies extra power to the Li-on battery pack. With respect to time required to attain a full charge, the Elektrus can be fully charged in eight hours.
The transmission is both automatic and manual and you. can switch from one to another effortlessly. And if you are one among those who simply can’t survive without the sound of a traditional internal combustion engine, fret not, for you can achieve the sound of a V8 thanks t the the Elektrus’ audio system.
And finally, just how deep a hole in your pocket is this beauty capable of burning? US$ 367,000 (inclusive of VAT), to be precise. If that doesn’t sound intimidating to you, given your baller status, please visit the PG website. Please note that only 667 cars will be produced elevating the Elektrus to a Limited Edition Luxury Vehicle.
