Solowheel: The Electric Unicycle from Inventist
February 15th, 2011 by Purnima View CommentsAre you a lover of green technology? If yes, then you ought to check out Inventist’s latest self- balancing electric unicycle – a small compact fun vehicle that will attract the biggest stares as you go cruising around town.
The Solowheel looks like somebody modified a Segway and made it more compact. The design is quite simple to understand. On the outside, the Solowheel has a 20 pound single wheel (you probably already guessed that going by the moniker), and two foldable platforms. It is more fun to ride than any folding bicycle. The advantage or disadvantage based on whether you’re a couch potato or if you like to make your hams and quads work is that you just have to stand on it unlike pedaling a bicycle and it takes you wherever you want to go. You just have to place your feet on both platforms and achieve a good balance. Inside, there are gyro sensors, a 1000-foot motor and a rechargeable Lithium ion battery that will last you 2 hours on a single charge of 45 minutes. The battery is extremely efficient and able to generate charge when going downhill or when you slow down.
The gyroscope sensors will allow you to increase speed by leaning forward and reduce acceleration by leaning backwards. Amazingly easy, isn’t it? Don’t worry if you haven’t ridden a unicycle before. The Solowheel is fairly easy to learn with its gyro-sensors and the left and right steering function. Experts say that a newbie will be able to learn to ride it in 15 minutes.
From a portability standpoint, it is quite lightweight and you can cart it along on an elevator, into a grocery store, to a theatre, to your classroom, on a bus/train etc. Finally from a safety perspective, it is roadworthy and you can also avoid crashes by simply hopping off when the need arises.
If you were to ask us, we think the Solowheel is a really cool green solution that is extremely straightforward and easy to use for $1,200. One thing is for sure, you will definitely make heads turn wherever you’re going.
