New Jet Boat a Thrill on the Waves

C-Boat's C-12

The jet boat industry has just dipped its toes into the boating waters, but one things for sure: there’s nothing tentative about this baby!

There’s no propellers, no rudder – just two impellers that suck water in through a grill in the front & jet it out the back. The C-Boat C-12 works like a jet-ski: fast, manoeuvrable & able to go where other boats can’t. That’s because thanks to the jets & smooth hull, shallow waters are no match for this baby & you can glide over inches of water without the stress of something getting stuck.

And talking of jets, those make the C-12 move in ways no other boat could dream of. Not only can she accelerate & turn, she can also brake, move sideways & spin. It sounds like poetry in motion & it is – in the nautical “wow” sense of the phrase.

C-12 cockpit detail

Of course, you can’t deny the appeal of the C-12′s sleek masculine design. It’s simple & elegant, with hand-stitched leather & slick cockpit mountings, yet the dark grey carbon-fibre hull makes it look like it was created for some super-secret, overly-funded special forces team. But its thanks to that carbon-fibre that the C-12′s dry weight is so ridiculously low for a boat of its class: 1,200kgs to be precise.

Speed is no option with the twin Steyr MO236 diesel engines behind the light-weight hull, powering the two 230 Alamarin water jets that allow speeds of up to 45 knots in smooth water, & giving skippers a 700-mile range on one tank.

And if you’re planning on bringing sexy back with a romantic evening, the bow contains a small cabin with a double berth, galley, washroom & a small wine rack. Just enough space & amenities for two (note: Barry White cd not included).

The designer Jason Carrington is a professional yachtsman & he worked hand-in-hand with Angus Blair of HYD during the design & building of the C-12. His plans are for the C-12 to be custom-built & tailored for exclusive clientèle, never mass-produced.

just another day at the office

So far there’s no waiting list, but as word gets out about the C-12, there just might be.

Priced at £300,000 (about $455,000) you can view full specs & details at C-Boat’s site.
