The Ultimate Go-Anywhere Vehilce: Scamander RRV
June 16th, 2009 by BallerRide View Comments
Created by ex-TVR owner and recently passed on Peter Wheeler, the Scamander RRV is the ultimate go-anywhere vehicle. As he explains it “Lots of people are fed up with their traditional sports cars, like Ferrari and Lamborghini produce, so I wanted to create an alternative. I created it for me, to be honest. I enjoy shooting, sailing and driving on track, so I wanted something that could cover all these elements. I call it an RRV, for rapid response vehicle.” Read on after the jump.
The Scamander RRV can speed on the track, any on- or off-road terrain and even hit the lake for a quick dip all while carrying four passengers. Wheeler built the Scamander to be as light and simple as possible, combining the on-land 2.0-liter Ford Zetec engine with the under-water propolsion system by creating 35′ tires designed to function like tractor tires with removable paddles. Wheeler intended for the final project to use the larger 4.6-liter Rover V8 engine that he used at TVR, but as it stands the Scamander RRV weighs in at only 2,425 lbs. The driver sits centrally for optimum control inside the bubble-like windseild which reminds us of The Homer that brought down Powell Motors on The Simpsons.

We’re not sure what will become of the Scamader RRV now that Wheeler has passed away as he was financing it on his own, but the last anyone heard him talk of it he said “We’re developing a remote control unit for it so you can control the Scamander even when no-one is on board. You’ll be able to start it up and make it ‘swim’ to your boat to pick you up from your mooring, for example, or you could send it back to the beach and park it up for the night. It’ll be the biggest remote- control toy ever!”
