Mercedes-Benz has taken to armoring their own vehicles with the E-Class high-protection package. The E-Class guard model is available in the W212 E-Class lineup and is encased in a protective cocoon made of special steel and all-around polycarbonate glaze. This protective system can withstand a .44 Magnum firarn and DM51 hand-grenade. An optional intercom system allows those inside to communicate with the outside world without leaving the safety of the E-Class.

To keep the speed and agility of the W212 E-Class lineup, as the protective system ads extra weight, Mercedes has duly adapted the AIRMATIC suspension and brakes. The E-Class also rolls on 17-inch runflat tires with three engine options; the E350 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY, the E500 and the E350.

The E-Class guard protection system, along with the ride, can be ordered starting in April at the cost of $58,000. The E-Class may not be as portective as the high-end armored luxury vehicles from INKAS, but it comes in at an easier to digest budget level and should protect the above average joe just fine.
