Roman Abramovich’s New Yacht, Eclipse, Revealed

Roman Abramovich, named the biggest spender in the world by Forbes in 2005, is in the process of building the world’s largest private yacht at 550 feet. A conceptual diagram of the new megayacht, named Eclipse, has surfaced, showing that Abramovich’s new boat will be outfitted with a missile defense system, armor plating, an escape submarine, and a host of other super-high-tech security features, some of which are shown above.
Projected to cost more than $350, Abramovich’s new yacht is secretly being built by Blohm + Voss in Germany, where it is scheduled for completion in late 2008. Eclipse will join Pelorus and Ecstasea, Abramovich’s 377-foot and 282-foot yachts as part of the Russian billionaire’s ultra-impressive fleet.
As a non-naval vessel, Eclipse is barred by maritime law from carrying firearms. Instead, Eclipse’s advanced security system will notify the crew of incoming rockets, giving the crew time to changecourse. In case of a serious attack, Abramovich will be able to escape in the yacht’s 160-foot-deep-diving sub.
Eclipse was designed by Hermidas Atabeyki with interiors to be completed by Terrence Disdale. Roman Abramovich is the second wealthiest individual in the UK with a net worth of about $23.5 billion. He is most famously known for his ownership position in the Chelsea football club.
