Get Your Shine On: Metallic Car Plating from Alchemist
August 27th, 2008 by BallerRide No Comments
If you’ve ever had the urge to plate your car in 24-carat gold, palladium or platinum, Alchemist is your go-to source. Headed by Frechman Jacques Blanc, the London-based company uses a newly-patented process to apply precious metals to car rooftops, and it’s hooked them up on everything from Bentley’s to Minis.
Alchemist’s gold plating process involves first polishing the car’s surface to privide a shiny surface for the metal plating to reflect. Skilled craftsmen then then place individual gold leaves onto a layer of a special base and finally cover the plating with an invisible shield to make the surface scratch-proof and impossible to pick off. Each plated surface is signed and numbered, with Alchemist supplying a certificate of authenticity.
If a precious-metal car surface isn’t flashy enough for you, there’s no need to fret. Alchemist offers a blinged-out option where they’ll set gemstones into the gold leaf.
