XSMG’s XSR48 Superboat: the “Bugatti Veyron” of the Sea

XSMG is a company that began with a simple goal: to build the world’s first supercar on the water. The result of XSMG’s efforts is the sleekly-styled and equally powerful XSR48, which accomplishes that company’s goal of combining “the DNA and high performance of a supercar with superyacht styling.”

The 1600+ horsepower powerboat is powered by two diesel engines, which propel the 48-foot XSR48 to a top speed of 98 mph (85 knots). The superboat’s hull is made of kevlar and carbon fiber with cross linked pvc cores bonded using vinylester and epoxy resins.

Inside the XSR48, purchasers will have the option to choose either a long double bed or two singles. Luxury touches, like an entertainment center, full mood lighting, a fridge, and a microwave increase the boat’s comfort level.

Hull designer Fabio Buzzi collaborated with superyacht designers Redman Whiteley Dixon and marine composite expert High Modulus to make the superboat project a reality. One hundred XSR48’s will be manufactured at the Berthon Shipyard in Lymington, England with each carrying a price tag of approximately $2.5 million.
